As Americans of conscience who are looking for significant social changes and a resurrection of our potential and promise as a country of human rights and scientific vision, we cannot let Antioch College close its doors. This donation request is a small contribution. I’d love it if you’d help me out by purchasing and also displaying this decal advertising my extraordinary alma mater. I would also highly appreciate your passing on this information, in an attempt to find philanthropists who may see the benefit of endowing such a significant and heroic institution of higher learning.

They are $20 a piece and the whole amount will go to Antioch College. I am giving along with your donation, my original design, my time, and expenses to this effort.
I redesigned the original decal, which is no longer offered through the Antioch Closet, to visually emphasize our revolutionary history. I look at what I am doing by creating and offering this Antioch College car window decal, not as an opportunity too reclaim our youth by flying our undergraduate colors or in trying to be camp or conforming. I see it as a way, through making it more visible to all of our diverse and far reaching communities, to help in some small way, to save our significant Alma Mater.

WHY HELP ANTIOCH?
ANTIOCH COLLEGE, founded in 1852 by the educational reformer Horace Mann. Horace Mann was the father of public education in America. Antioch’s philosophy teaches Liberal Arts from a dialectical materialism perspective. It is a highly transformative approach to viewing society, politics, the nature of people, preservation of the earth and profound appreciation for the value of existence, confirmed by equal rights and justice for all sentient beings, through hard scientific evidence and logic. This methodology is a profound tool for social transformation.
In light of recent outcries for the full and equal empowerment of black Americans, I’d like to make note of a number of famous African Americans who graduated from Antioch College, including Coretta Scott King, author, activist, civil rights leader, and the wife of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; Eleanor Holmes Norton, Congressional Delegate for Wash. D.C., and A. Leon Higginbotham, Jr., civil rights advocate, author, and Chief Justice of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit. Other notable alumni include two Nobel laureates, Mario Capecchi (B.S. 1961), co-recipient of the 2007, Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, and José Manuel Ramos-Horta (M.A., Peace Studies, 1984), co-recipient of the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize, and later President of East Timor (2007-2012). Other significant Antioch College, alumni include Stephen Jay Gould, Rod Serling, Mark Strand, Leland Clark, Arthur Lithgow, Frances Cress Welsing, Emma Amos, Silvia Nasar, Mary Church Terrell, Idris Ackamoor and Virginia Hamilton. Amongst those who graduated among my contemporaries are Peggy Ahwesh, Lydia Dean Pilcher, Julia Blumenreich and Lance Oliver Hewitt MD/PhD. The list goes on and on, hundreds of socially progressive Americans who have made a significant difference to science and humanity have sprung from this small private college in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
For many years now Antioch College has been limping along financially, as it continues to offer unique, educative, often subsidized, opportunities to young revolutionary minds. Now, in the face of CV19, it may not be able to continue into the future. My father, a world acclaimed leader of compassionate, clinical practice as an integral aspect of medical education, Howard S. Barrows MD, suggested that I attend Antioch College as an undergraduate. His reasoning was because the best clinical practitioners of medicine he ever met, among the thousands of interns and residents he sponsored were graduates of Antioch College.
